CHINA, Mongols (Pre-Yuán). Circa AD 1230-1280. Æ 2 Cash(?) (30mm, 5.17 g). Da Guan tong bao in Hànzì characters / Blank. BN, Chinoises IV –; cf. Hartill 19.7 (for identical obverse type with dot pattern reverse); Shanghai 1379. Brown surfaces. Fine. Rare.

Little is known of these early Mongol cash issues. Though a coin of identical style is illustrated in Hartill and published in the Shanghai collection, this may in fact be a contemporary or later charm. Nevertheless, it is a fascinating and rare Mongol-related coin.
