ITALY, Papal (Papal state). Gregory II. 715-731. PB Bulla – Seal (34mm, 18.42 g, 12h). GRЄ/GORII / PA/PAЄ. Serafini 1-2. Brown and gray patina, extensive splitting. Near VF. Very rare. Possibly the earliest Papal seal in private hands, and certainly the oldest we have handled. Lot also includes a postcard from the 1903 I Summi Pontefici Cartoline Postale Illustrate series.

Purchased by the consignor from Thomas Buczek, November 2013. Reportedly ex Cardinal Franz Koenig Collection.
