This issue belongs to the short two-year period dating from the start of Justinian’s reign until Antioch was almost laid to ruin by a massive earthquake on 29 November 529. After the city was spared from total destruction by the ruinous disaster, it was renamed Theoupolis. The mint-mark was changed and the new name of Theoupolis appeared on the city’s subsequent coinage.
