Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ As (23.5mm, 8.76 g, 6h). Rome mint (for circulation in Syria). Group 4, circa AD 124-125. HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / COS III, S C across field, Antioch seated left on rocks, towered and holding grain ears; below, river-god Orontes, swimming left (misdescribed as woman resting on stork in the first edition of RIC). RIC II.3 750; RPC II 3756; McAlee 544. Brown granular surfaces, minor pitting and some flan flaws, typical of submersion in water over the centuries. VF.
