Belgium, Bruges. Circa AD 1450. Leaf (4.37”x5.51”). Medieval Book of Hours. Illuminated leaf containing the prayer Requiem aeternam: “Eternal Rest Grant unto Them,” for souls in Purgatory followed by Psalm 119: 5a. All followed by the entirety of Psalms 119 and 120 in the Vulgate. With simple illumination around capital letters and some decoration interspersed throughout the text. From a prayer book worthy of someone of some means for the time. Gold, blue, red, and white illumination. Ink intact. Slight browning, small tear at edge, minor wrinkling, small old code penciled in a lower margin. VF.
