JUDAEA, Neapolis. Caracalla. AD 198-217. BI Tetradrachm (26mm, 12.43 g, 12h). Struck AD 215-217. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Eagle standing facing, head and tail left, wings displayed, holding wreath in beak; XX to right of head, three-horned altar between legs. Kropp fig. 2 (obv. die); Prieur 1318. Toned, porosity, minor marks and scratches. Near VF. Extremely rare, only two known to Prieur, two in CoinArchives.

Dr. Kropp has reattributed this series, by die study, from Byblus to Neapolis in Judaea (see Dr. Andreas Kropp, “A Roman altar on Mt. Gerizim: Rediscovering a civic icon on tetradrachms of Neapolis (Samaria)” in JRA 34 [2021]. pp. 220-36).
