Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Draped bust of Serapis right, wearing ornate calathus, palm frond to right; L I (date) to left. Köln –; Dattari (Savio) 4439 & 10008; K&G 62.148; RPC VI Online 10464; Emmett 3174.10 (R3). Rough brown surfaces. Near VF. Rare.

The palm frond on Severus Alexander’s regnal year 10 coinage alludes to the decennalia ludi, public games celebrating the completion of a ten-year reign. He would continue to use the palm frond on his coinage through the end of his reign.
