L. Papius. 79 BC. AR Serrate Denarius (17.5mm, 4.09 g, 3h). Rome mint. Head of Juno Sospita right, wearing goat-skin headdress; cup to left / Griffin springing right; pitcher below. Crawford 384/1 (symbols 153); Sydenham 773; Papia 1; CNR Papia 1/58 (symbols coppa/brocca); RBW 1412-3 var. (symbols). Deep iridescent toning, reverse struck slightly off center, a few light marks and scratches beneath the toning. VF. Banti describes the obverse symbol as a cup, but it looks more like a pileus. Yarrow (https://livyarrow.org/digital-resources/papius-pairs/) does not list this symbol pair.
