ISLANDS off TROAS, Tenedos. Circa 205-195 BC. AR Tetradrachm (32.5mm, 16.71 g, 12h). In the name and types of Lysimachos of Thrace. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; herm to outer left, A to inner left, labrys in exergue. Meadows, Double-Axe, Group C, 151–2 var. (O4/R23; later die state, with I added to right of A in inner left field); Müller –; HGC 6, 389. Faintly toned, minor wave at edge of flan, scratches, small scrape on obverse. Good VF. Extremely rare.

The earliest issue in Meadows’ Group C coinage is the same as that of his Group B, with the exception that the inner left control mark was now an AI, rather than an A. However, the present piece proves that the Group C coinage actually began with the same control mark as Group B, and that the I was added later.
