Allectus. Romano-British Emperor, AD 293-296. Antoninianus (18.5mm, 3.12 g, 6h). Londinium (London) mint. Radiate and draped bust right / Fortuna seated left, holding rudder and cornucopia; wheel to left; ML. RIC V 19 (this coin cited; cites Webb); P. Webb, “The Coinage of Allectus” in NC 1906, 22 (this coin cited); Burnett, Coinage p. 37 (cited under implausible additions). Dark brown-green patina, light roughness. Near VF. Extremely rare. The only cited example in RIC V and in Webb’s 1906 catalog which both refer to this coin in Webb’s Collection at the time. Deleted from his catalog by Burnett but now once again verifiable.

From the Dr. Malcolm Lyne Collection. Ex Baldwin’s Auction 100 (27 September 2016), lot 895; Richard Cyril Lockett Collection (Part I, Glendining, 6 June 1955), lot 184 (part of), purchased from Baldwin’s; Patterson Collection; P. Webb Collection.
