Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing, raising hand in benediction / + M O SE DR EÐIG, voided long cross with triple-crescent ends and pellet at center. Becker Collection 82-3 var. (moneyer); Hede I 46 var. (moneyer); Hauberg 6. Lightly toned, minor deposits, wavy flan, peck marks. VF.

The design of this coin was inspired by gold nomismata of the Byzantine emperor Michael IV (1032-1041). Harald Hardrada of Norway and his followers brought back many such coins to Scandinavia which they had obtained for service in the Varangian Guard.
