Lucius Verus. AD 161-169. Æ As (24.5mm, 12.06 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck under Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, AD 161. Laureate, draped, and [cuirassed] bust right / Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus standing vis-à-vis, clasping right hands. RIC III 1290 var. (bust type); MIR 18, 16-19/37. Dark brown patina with some red and green, light roughness. Near VF. This bust type is unlisted in RIC. There is drapery visible on both sides of Verus’ shoulder while the requisite cuirass for this bust type is concurrently no longer visible. MIR notes one example of such a bust in the Ashmolean [unseen]. Rare thus.
