Constantine II. As Caesar, AD 316-337. Æ Follis (19.5mm, 2.77 g, 6h). Londinium (London) mint. Struck under Constantine I, late AD 320-321. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust left / Banded globe set upon altar inscribed VOT/IS/ XX in three lines; three stars above; P|A//PLON. RIC VII 216 corr. (rev. legend); RML 1015; C&T 9.04.025. Dark brown-green patina. VF.

From the Dr. Malcolm Lyne Collection, purchased from Baldwin’s.

While C&T follow Marsden’s October 2012 NumCirc article in which he argued that this bust should be described as trabeate, RML conversely argues that that if the bust has pteryges it should be described as cuirassed even if it has some features of the trabea. The latter criteria has been followed here as this bust has clear pteryges.

Closing Date and Time: 19 February 2025 at 14:21:00 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
