Constantine II. As Caesar, AD 316-337. Æ Follis (18.5mm, 3.41 g, 6h). Londinium (London) mint. Struck under Constantine I, late AD 320-321. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust left, seen from behind / Banded globe set upon altar inscribed VOT/IS/ XX in three lines; three stars above; P|A//PLON. RIC VII –; RML 1016; C&T 9.04.024; C. King, “The Appleford Hoard” in RBN CXXIII (1977) p. 64, 136-176 corr. (RIC reference; this coin one of). Dark green-brown patina, slight porosity. VF. Very rare.

From the Dr. Malcolm Lyne Collection. Ex 1954 Appleford Hoard (IRBCH 1261).

This coin is not an RIC 218 as cataloged by King. RIC 218’s reverse legend reads BEAT rather than BEATA. Evidentially, this particular coin was missed amidst the hoard cataloging and grouped together with the very similar RIC VII 218’s.

Closing Date and Time: 19 February 2025 at 14:21:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
