IONIA, Uncertain. Circa 550-500 BC. AR Obol(?) (8.5mm, 0.87 g). Head of calf left / Quadripartite incuse square. CNG E-547, lot 239; CNG E-518, lot 188; CNG E-449, lot 153; CNG E-341, lot 205; CNG E-303, lot 46; otherwise, unpublished in the standard references. Lightly toned, granular surfaces, trace earthen deposits on reverse. Good VF.

Although unpublished, the style of the calf is very similar to that on the obverses of an electrum issue at Phokaia (cf. Bodenstedt em. 21) and the reverse of an electrum issue at Mytilene (cf. Bodenstedt em. 12).
