EGYPT, Alexandria. Trajan. AD 98-117. Æ Drachm (34mm, 18.77 g, 12h). Dated RY 14 (AD 110/1). Laureate bust right, aegis on left shoulder / Athena standing left, holding grain ears and resting right hand on grounded shield; to left, lighted altar; L IΔ (date) across field. Köln –; Dattari (Savio) Supp. 35 corr. (Athena holding Nike); K&G –; RPC III 4505 corr. (bust, Athena holding Nike); Emmett –. Brown patina, some porosity, a couple of spots of verdigris, smoothing. Near VF. Extremely rare; the second known.

This coin confirms the obverse bust type as wearing an aegis. It also confirms Emmett’s identification of Athena holding grain ears instead of Nike, correcting Dattari and RPC.
