EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Patraos of Paeonia. Late 4th-early 3rd centuries BC. AR Tetradrachm (23.5mm, 12.86 g, 9h). Mint in the middle Danube region. Celticized head of Apollo left, with short hair / Warrior on horse rearing right, enemy lying below who defends with shield. Cf. Paeonian Hoard 514 (for type); cf. Lanz 1004–5 (same); Nomos Obolos 4, lot 39; otherwise, unpublished. Lightly toned with deposits, minor porosity. VF. Apparently unique left-facing variety with the horseman lacking a spear. |
