Andronicus II Palaeologus, with Michael IX. 1282-1328. AV Hyperpyron (25mm, 3.23 g, 6h). Class II. Constantinople mint. Struck 1294-1304. Half-length figure of the Theotokos, orans, within city walls with six towers; sigla: B (reversed B) with pellets / AVTOKPATOPЄC PωMAIωN, Christ standing facing, crowning Andronicus and Michael kneeling to left and right, respectively. DOC 244 var. (sigla, rev. legend); LPC p. 62, 1 note iv; PCPC 128.2 var. (number of towers), sigla 143; LBC –; SB 2396. Areas of flat strike, scratches on reverse. VF. Rare reverse legend variety not recorded with six tower obverse.
