LESBOS, Mytilene. temp. Antonine Era. Circa AD 138-192. Æ (15mm, 1.45 g, 6h). Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Athena right, wearing aegis / Telesphorus standing facing, wearning hooded mantle. RPC IV.2 1809. Dark green patina, some roughness, flan adjustment marks. VF. Very rare variety.

From the Kelly Ramage Collection.

RPC combines two varieties into one; one with a spear over Athena’s shoulder and one with an aegis. All of the illustrated specimens show the spear-over-shoulder variety, von Aulock and Münich do as well. The variety presented here, with only the aegis, appears to be a scarcer type. There are none of either variety in CoinArchives.

Closing Date and Time: 2 July 2025 at 12:26:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
