Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. AR Denarius (18mm, 2.86 g, 1h). Emesa mint. Struck AD 194-195. IMP CAE L SEP SE V PERT AVG CO(S over I)I, laureate head right / VICT OR AVG, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm frond over shoulder. RIC IV 425; BMCRE 396; RSC 697 (all with fully engraved obv. legend). Lightly toned with underlying luster. EF.

A note from the collector: The style of this coin is similar to the “Old Laodicea” issues, while the date is consistent with the “Emesa” issues, which illustrates continuity (and probably identity of mint) between the two.
