Lot of five (5) coins.

226a Severus Alexander. AD 222-235. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.52 g, 11h). Uncertain eastern or irregular mint. IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / FIDES EXERCITVS, Fides seated left, holding an uncertain object; signa to left and right. Cf. RIC IV 138; cf. BMCRE 220 note; cf. RSC 50. Porosity, lightly toned. VF. Rare.

From the Richard McAlee Collection.

A number of rare types that were attributed to the eastern mint in RIC were reattributed as “irregular” issues in BMCRE, following their detailed reanalysis of the mint. Though often copying types found at Rome, they are presented here as “Uncertain eastern or irregular mint.”

IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND [AVG], laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / FIDES EXERCI[T...], Fides seated left, holding signa; signa to right. RIC IV 278; cf. BMCRE 1071; RSC 48a. From the Richard McAlee Collection.

This and the following two coins are all struck from the same obverse die and thus all originated from the same mint.
226d Severus Alexander. AD 222-235. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.11 g, 12h) Uncertain eastern or irregular mint. IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / MARTI PACIFERO, Mars standing left, holding branch and inverted spear. Cf. RIC IV 160 (Rome); cf. BMCRE 68-71 (Rome); cf. RSC 173a (same). Peripheral toning, thin flan crack. Good VF. Same obv. die as 226c and 226e.

RIC IV 289 describes a similar type, given to Antioch, but the citation to the BM collection is incorrect.

IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / P M TR P COS PP, Jupiter standing left, holding thunderbolt and long scepter. Cf. RIC IV 5; cf. BMCRE 12-3; cf.
