246a Gordian III. AD 238-244. AR Antoninianus (22mm, 4.38 g, 1h). Antioch mint. 2nd series, 1st issue, AD 242-244. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / PAX AVGVSTI, Pax advancing left, holding olive branch and transverse scepter. Bland, Gordian III 72; RIC IV 214; RSC 179. Lightly toned. VF. Rare bust type for issue.

246b Gordian III. AD 238-244. AR Antoninianus (23mm, 5.80 g, 7h). Antioch mint. 2nd series, 1st issue, AD 242-244. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / PAX AVGVSTI, Pax advancing left, holding olive branch and transverse scepter. Bland, Gordian III 73; RIC IV 214; RSC 179a. Lightly toned. VF. Struck on a heavy flan, heavier than any recorded by Bland for this type.

Bland, Gordian III 76; RIC IV 217; RSC 362. Lightly toned. Near EF. Rare bust type for issue. Struck from the same reverse die as lot 246d.

Bland, Gordian III 77; RIC IV 217; RSC 362a. Toned. Good VF. Struck from the same reverse die as lot 246c.
