THRACE, Perinthus. Elagabalus. AD 218-222. Æ Medallion (40mm, 30.97 g, 7h). Laureate and cuirassed bust right, wearing aegis, seen from the front; gorgoneion on breastplate / Elagabalus, radiate and togate, standing right in slow quadriga right, holding scepter and apluster; behind, Nike crowns him with a wreath; before, charioteer, seated right, holding reins; above, trophy of arms on platform, two bound captives seated at its base. Schönert, Perinthos 718 (obv. die F); RPC VI Online 985.5 (this coin); Varbanov 372. Brown patina, minor marks and porosity, flan crack, smoothing, details enhanced. Good VF. Very rare.
