KINGS of THRACE, Odrysian. Amatokos II. Circa 359-351 BC. AR Hemidrachm (13mm, 2.03 g). Chersonesos (Thrace) mint. Forepart of lion right, head left / Quadripartite incuse circle; two opposing quarters raised, containing a pellet and A; the other two opposing quarters containing a [labrys] and MA. Peykov –; CN Online Type –; Topalov, Political, p. 382, 63 = Topalov, Odrysian, pp. 94–6; HGC 3, 1703; McClean 4109. Toned. Near VF. Extremely rare, only one in CoinArchives (CNG 93, lot 116).

This is the sole silver issue in the name of Amatokos. According to Topalov, this issue was struck as a tax payment to the king by the towns of Thracian Chersonesos (cf. Topalov, Political, pp. 445–6).
