1799 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-158; B-16a. Rarity 2. PCGS AU50. 25039907. Diagnostics include: left stars distant from curl and L, numerals 1 and 7 close, star 6 has raised die defect or trace of extra ray to left of topmost ray. On reverse, U in UNITED defective at upper left part, which is cut off, point of star touches point of lower part of eagle’s beak, star under cloud 1 is smaller than any other. BB Die State III, with incuse “waves” above date caused by impression of reverse clouds on obverse die, additional clash marks between bust and star 13. On the reverse, incuse marks from obverse die include lower drapery line (which appears as a die crack, which it is not, through OF), and date 1799 between ES and OF. An attractive coin with some luster.
