SOLIDV within chain border / Neptune standing left, holding scepter (or trident?) and uncertain object. De Jersey, Silver F3; ABC 474; Van Arsdell 2073-1 (Catuvellauni, Cunobeline); SCBC 351 (Catuvellauni). Deeply toned. Near EF. Extremely rare – only six examples in CCI.

The obverse legend is usually interpreted as a mint name, possibly Solidu[non?] (fort of the sun). The location was likely a maritime stronghold of Cunobelin, considering the naval themes on this and the related minim (ABC 477), and certainly in Kent, based on known find spots. ABC interprets the obverse legend as referring to an individual named Solidus, possibly a sub-king of Cunobelin in Kent. The reverse type is derived from the Roman bronze asses of Gaius (Caligula), struck AD 37-41, providing a more precise date for this rare silver issue.
