Struck circa 1010-1016. + SITRIC RE+ DУFLMN, diademed and draped bust left / + PÆHREMIN MΘ DУFLI, small cross pattée. SCBI 8 (BM), –; SCBI 22 (Copenhagen), –; SCBI 32 (Ulster), –; SCBC 6117; cf. CNG 105 (10 May 2017), lot 1236 (for another example). Lightly toned, peck marks. Good VF. Extremely rare moneyer for this variety. Absent from the three major SCBI collections.

Sihtric III Silkbeard (Old Norse Sigtryggr) struck pennies imitating the types of Aethelred II and Cnut the Great. He patronized Norse poets, promoted Christianity, and aspired to match his contemporary Cnut the Great. He wisely avoided the Battle of Clontarf (April 23, 1014), and so he ruled in Dublin until his death in 1035.
