Laureate bust right, slight drapery (or aegis?) / Modius in cart pulled by two oxen; before modius, head of Serapis (driving cart?); above, L IB (date). Köln 499 var. (obv. legend); Dattari (Savio) –; RPC III 4306.3 (same dies as illustrated example = CNG XIII, lot 28) = K&G 27.190; Emmett 540.12 (R5 = Köln 499). Dark brown patina with touches of green deposits. Near VF. Extremely rare, none in CoinArchives. The authors of RPC III differentiate this reverse type into four varieties, based on the obverse legend and bust type. For all four varieties (4306.1-4), they only cite six total specimens. |
