No date (1919). HIS MAJESTY VICTOR EMMANUEL III KING OF ITALY above, incuse-relief crowned shield of Italy’s House of Savoy left, small signature J.M. Swanson at right, uniformed bust of Italy’s numismatist-King (reigned 1900-1946) left, wearing World War I period tunic and cap of a Division General / NEW YORK NUMISMATIC CLUB • ORGANIZED 1908 •, reverse 2: torch-bearer in Classical tunic holds a coin whose bold rays enlighten ancient civilizations. IoC p. 218. Toned, a few minor marks. EF. No serial number on the silver medal. Serial number 14 on the bronze medal. Two (2) medals in lot.

King Victor Emmanuel III authored the monumental 20-volume work: Corpus Nummorum Italicorum, a catalogue of coins issued “in Italy and by Italians in other lands” since Roman times. The first president of the New York Numismatic Club, Frank C. Higgins, was responsible for promoting the King’s election to ANA Honorary Life Membership.
