COELESYRIA, Damascus. Philip I. AD 244-249. Æ (29.5mm, 16.00 g, 1h). Struck AD 244-247. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from the front / River-god Chrysoroas seated left within arched grotto, holding grain ear and cornucopia; above, Marsyas standing within tetrastyle temple; star in left field, crescent in right field; ΠHTAI in exergue. Cf. Rosenberger 40 (for same rev. type on coin of Otacilia); RPC VIII Online 26803; SNG München -; BMC -; SNG Copenhagen -. Earthen red surfaces. Near VF. Extremely rare, only one specimen known to RPC.

Phtai is the name of the spring which feeds the Chrysoroas river.
