ROMAN. Sardonyx cameo set in gold pendant. 2nd-3rd centuries AD. (23.5 mm x 35 mm). A finely carved cameo in beautifully contrasting layers of Sardonyx of Eros, leaning on a staff, wing expanded to right, standing nude in contemplative pose with head tilted. He stands on a decorated base. All within an oval gold bezel with a twisted gold frame, surmounted by a gold loop for suspension. Cameo cracked through from side to side just below the knees of Eros, some loss of carving at the crack. A charming piece. Website shipping rates do not apply.
