Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon; MHNOΔ below / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; ΣΩΣIΘ to inner left, monogram on throne. Callataÿ, Tétradrachme, dies D1/R2, e (this coin); Thompson –; Müller 564 corr. (obv. name not noted, corrected monogram); cf. HGC 3, 1750 (for type). Toned. VF. Very rare, one of ten known; Callataÿ notes seven examples, with three additional in CoinArchives (the example in CNG 41 and 43 is the NFA XXXIII coin noted by Callataÿ).

A rare signed tetradrachm of Lysimachos. With most magistrates represented by letters or monograms, the use of two partial names on this coin (Menodoros or Menodotos and Sosithos) might suggest that they are intended to be artists' signatures. F. de Callataÿ investigated this issue, and compared it to the appearance of names on other Hellenistic issues that are considered to be signatures, concluding that there is, as yet, no satisfactory answer to whether these are merely mint officials or engravers.
