Head of Apollo right, wearing laurel wreath / Apollo, laureate and draped at the waist, holding a laurel branch in right hand and resting his left on grounded bow to right; two monograms to inner left, AΠOΛΛΩNOΣ AKTAIOY ΠAPIANΩN around. Ellis-Evans, Late, Group, unlisted issue, but obv. die O2; Meadows, Parion, Group 1, unlisted issue; SNG BN –; CNG 78, lot 762 = Triton X, lot 274 = Gemini I, lot 152 var. (different monograms; same obv. die); Hunt IV 317 var. (same; same obv. die). Toned, roughness. VF. Well centered. Unique example of an unpublished issue from the very rare Hellenistic tetradrachms of Parion; Ellis-Evans only notes twelve examples from eight different issues. |
