Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ Sestertius (34mm, 25.80 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 130-138. Laureate head right / Decastyle temple: statue on bias within temple, statues in the central pediment, with further sculptures on the roof; the temple flanked by statues on high columns. RIC II.3 2408 var. (without central statue); Banti 312 var. (same). Red-brown patina, minor porosity. VF. Extremely rare.

Note from the Glendining’s catalogue: “This great temple was designed by Hadrian and finished in the reign of Antoninus Pius; Philip Blake-Hill (Num. Chron. 1984) mentions a possibly unique variant (cast in the BM) on which the cult image is visible between the columns, as is the case in this specimen.”
