REPRODUCTIONS, CRETE. Knossos. Circa 300-270 BC. Struck “AR Stater” (22mm, 8.59 g, 9h). Derived from a British Museum electrotype (trace of [MB] on reverse). Head of Hera left, wearing polos decorated with palmettes, triple-pendant earring, and necklace / Labyrinth; to left, A above javelin point; to right, P above thunderbolt, KNΩΣIΩ[N] below. Cf. Head, Guide, III B, 39 (for electrotype); cf. GPCG pl. 24, 54 (for prototype). Toned, areas of green deposits, area of disturbance behind head. As made.

Duplicate from the England - McFadden Electrotype Collection.

The area of disturbance behind the head (not visible on the prototype), suggests that an identification mark was removed in creating the die for this reproduction. A similar attempt to remove the (MB) mark on the reverse.
