Ex Künker 227 (11 March 2013), lot 2188; Numismatica Ars Classica 56 (8 October 2010), lot 568. ‘Some unusual Beneventan issues of silver denari were struck by the Emperor Louis II who, in the course of organizing a south Italian coalition against the Saracens, made himself master of the city for some years (866-71). Some of them bear the name of his strong-minded wife Angilberga, the only appearance on coinage of a Carolingian empress.’ Grierson, p.45.
