Unsigned British Museum electrotype by Robert Ready, late 19th century. h ЄNRIC RЄX ·I·I·P·, Henry enthroned facing, holding scepter and globus cruciger / WILL ЄM : O N LV NDЄ :, voided long cross with central pellet; expanded rose between three pellets in each quarter. Good VF. A desirable electrotype of an extremely rare and most important type.

Inspired by the gold florin of Florence in 1257 Henry III struck a fine gold penny of 45 grains made current at 20d. The king’s goldsmith, William of Goucester, was responsible for the short lived issue which was withdrawn from circulation by c. 1270 due to lack of acceptance.
