Steatite scarab with blue-green glaze. Lower Egypt. Saite Period. 664-525 BC. (23 mm) A large scarab with central, bidirectional piercing for suspension. The back is well carved and shows major details of the scarab, including legs. Glaze is fairly even and shows crackling. On the face, A cartouche of ab-xpr-r' (Amenhotep II) and Osiris with staff. Copied barbarous form. |
