BYZANTINE. Middle Period. Lot of one PB (Lead) Seal and two Bronze Weights. 8th - 10th Century AD. Includes: Circular lead seal (17 mm, 3.14 g) Obverse: Nimbate facing bust of the Virgin Mary holding infant Jesus to chest, cross in fields to left and right. Reverse: Cruciform monogram of "Peter" in Greek. Lot also includes a small square bronze One Nomisma weight, 12 X 13 mm, with a single circular mark on each side, and a Byzantine or Islamic bronze multifaceted weight, 16 mm in diameter and weighing 14.55 g, with some enameling. THREE (3) PIECES TOTAL.. Similar to Zacos II, 1206. The seal with light wear, dark gray patina; the square weight dark green patina; the multi-faceted wight dark green with red enameling. |
