Thalassa was the goddess of the sea, she was the wife of the sea god Pontus and mother of fishes. As a sea diety, she was considered to be the actual personification of the sea’s water, specifically the water of the Mediterranean. Various myths describe her as the mother of Aphrodite and Halia, the sea nymph of Rhodes who became lover to Poseidon.
