Ex Robert W. Bartlett Bequest Sold for the Benefit of the American Numismatic Society (Classical Numismatic Group Keystone 4, 2 September 2021), lot 28; Birkler & Waddell III (9 December 1981), lot 45.

Not identifiable with a known mint in Sicily, the bronze coins of this type inscribed KAINON have traditionally been attributed to Alaisa, or as independent issues by a band of Thracian mercenaries in Sicily. More recent scholarship has established that they were struck by Dionysios II in Syracuse.
