ATTICA, Athens. Circa 353-294 BC. AR Tetradrachm (20.5mm, 17.04 g, 8h). Helmeted head of Athena right, with profile eye and pi-style palmette / Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left. Kroll –; HGC 4, 1599. Lightly toned, typical oblong (folded) flan, struck with worn obverse die, test cuts and small plug on reverse (repaired in antiquity). VF.

From the Don T. Hayes Collection, purchased from Alex G. Malloy, April 1994.

The small round object behind the tail of the owl appears to be a plug that was applied in antiquity, perhaps to repair a void or similar flaw in the flan, and bring the weight of the piece up to standard.

Closing Date and Time: 28 June 2023 at 10:32:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
